Alberta secures additional doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine

After Alberta Premier Jason Kenney heard from several Albertans they only feel comfortable getting the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, more doses have arrived.

On Friday, Kenney announced the province has received 5,000 doses of the Janssen vaccine, with 15,000 more set to arrive at a later date.

“I would encourage anybody to go out there and get vaccinated with whatever vaccine is available, but if people, for their own reasons based on their own research or priorities, have chosen this as the best vaccine for them, we respect that choice,” said Kenney.

“We want to be there to support them in that choice.”

Beginning Friday, Albertans can call 8-1-1 to book appointments for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.

The province says the vaccine will only be administered at Alberta Health Services (AHS) clinics due to limited supply.

Kenney says he is set to speak to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau next week and will emphasize the importance of receiving more doses of the viral vector vaccine.
