Central Alberta town to implement vaccine passport program after previously resisting

A town in central Alberta has been holding out against using the province’s proof of vaccination system since it was introduced but has finally blinked.

Blackfalds will soon be using the QR scan system at its community centre and fitness centre because the alternative wasn’t working out.

The town had been abiding by the capacity limitations rule instead of requiring proof of vaccination.

Now, Blackfalds officials are urging people to treat the staff at the centres with respect, as it’s now their responsibility to check for people who aren’t vaccinated.

The town’s chief administrative officer, Myron Thompson, told Red Deer News Now that council weighed the options and decided using the vaccine passport was the best choice to balance health and safety and still being able to provide services to residents.

The paper also reports people in the town will have to show their QR code starting Monday.
