Two injured, several forced out of homes following fire at SW condo building

Two people were injured and several more Calgarians had to find somewhere to spend the night after a car fire at an apartment parkade forced everyone out of their homes.

The Calgary Fire Department says crews were called to the Bridlewood condo complex around 10 p.m. Wednesday night.

When they got there, the building’s alarms were going off and people had already started to evacuate.

The CFD says firefighters were able to get into the parking lot and bring the fire under control fairly quickly.

Calgary Transit offered up buses to keep the displaced residents warm while the fire team made sure the smoke had been ventilated from the building and it was safe to go back in.

It’s still unknown what sparked the fire, but firefighters are investigating. Damage was limited to the car and the parkade.

The CFD also says this is a good reminder to make sure you and your family have an emergency plan in place and that you’ve practiced your evacuation route ahead of time.
