Mr. Plow, Plowy McPlowface most popular submissions in city’s plow naming contest

The City of Calgary is about halfway through its snow-plow-naming contest, and there are a few clear favourites among submissions.

As Twitter may have guessed, Plowy McPlowface has been one of the most popular submissions thus far.

Others include Frosty the Snowplow and a classic Simpsons reference, Mr. Plow.

Hundreds of children have been submitting names in the contest and the city is looking for some really creative suggestions before winners are announced in January.

Some suggestions include thinking of an Indigenous word or other names from other languages to recognize Calgary’s diversity.

Classes from kindergarten to Grade 9 are eligible to submit a name.

The names will be pasted on the sides of the city’s fleet of snowplows and you’ll be able to find your favourite plow on the city’s map through the winters.

Calgary is following the lead of several other jurisdictions that have named their snowplows, including Scotland and Minnesota.

The contest runs until Nov. 30.
