Police reopen SW Calgary roads after found package deemed safe

Calgary emergency crews shut down a handful of city blocks around 17 Avenue SW on Thursday after what was believed to be a suspicious package was found.

Calgary police closed 17 Ave. between 7 and 8 Streets as well as 8 Street between 16 and 18 Avenues for a little over an hour.

Shortly after 2 p.m., police deemed the package was not a danger to the public.

Roads in the area have since reopened.
