Calgary snow prompts preparedness warning

Bundle up and prepare for slick conditions as snow falls on Calgary.

The city says it’s preparing as best as it can for icy roads, but drivers are being reminded to use caution when heading out.

Environment Canada is only forecasting about two centimetres of snowfall through Tuesday.

The city says crews have been “preparing equipment and applying anti-icing materials to intersections, hills, and bridge decks where ice can easily build up.”

Calgarians are urged to ensure their vehicles are “winterized” and give themselves extra time getting around. It’s also recommended you leave plenty of space between your vehicle and the one ahead of you.

Once the snow stops, the city says its “approved seven-day snow plan” will be activated.

“This plan focuses our snow response on the highest used roads first to keep the most Calgarians moving safely,” a release reads.
