Bowness fire sends one person to hospital

One person has been taken to the hospital after a fire at a multi-plex apartment in Bowness.

Crews were called to the building along 75th Avenue Northwest at around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they were met by smoke “pushing from the lower windows of an 8-plex suite with occupants evacuating.”

After entering the building, firefighters found one person at a window. They were able to get them out and have them assessed by Alberta Health.

A second person, who was able to get themselves out, suffered cuts to their hands because of broken glass. They were also assessed by AHS.

“Firefighters quickly attacked the fire from the outside and then moved to the inside to gain control and extinguish the fire,” a release reads.

Calgary Fire says crews faced some challenges because of debris blocking the doorway.

Overall, the fire damage was limited to one suite. People have been able to get back into the other units.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. The condition of the male occupant taken to hospital remains unknown.
