Environment Canada warns of slick road conditions with freezing rain overnight

As temperatures continue to steadily drop, there is a chance roads could be quite slick for the Wednesday morning commute in Calgary.

Environment Canada is out with a special weather statement calling for potential freezing rain for central and southern Alberta.

The freezing rain, coupled with the low overnight temperatures, could lead to icy roads before the sun rises.

Calgary Transportation says it will be monitoring the forecast and will have crews at the ready should roads become hazardous.

“Our crews will be applying material to high volume roads, but residential side streets may be slick,” they said in a tweet on Tuesday evening.

Drivers are being encouraged to clear snow off their cars before heading out and to be mindful of the conditions.
