Calgary police expand domestic abuse app

An app meant to connect Calgarians experiencing domestic abuse to resources is being expanded.

Calgary police launched Connect Line in 2019 they are relaunching it, but this time it will include resources for specific communities like gender and sexually diverse, Indigenous people, and those who are culturally diverse.

Police say they realize that people in those communities might face additional challenges finding appropriate supports so they are doing this in an effort to remove some barriers.

“Supports, such as counseling, financial assistance, education among others are available, but it can be challenging to navigate which agencies to contact,” said Staff Sergeant Vince Hancott with the Calgary Police Service Domestic Conflict Unit in a statement.

“Connect Line organizes supports into 17 categories to make it easier to find the most relevant resources.”

The app also includes information on domestic abuse, the laws that apply, and how to plan for safety when dealing with domestic violence.
