Leaving town? Blowing snow advisory issued north of Calgary

Heads up if you’re planning to hit the highway north of Calgary Thursday–driving conditions are expected to deteriorate through the day.

Environment Canada has issued a blowing snow advisory for places north of Airdrie and beyond Red Deer.

It’s expected to get worse late Thursday morning.

“Northwest winds gusting to 60 km/h and falling snow will create poor visibility in blowing snow beginning near noon,” reads the alert from Environment Canada.

The weather agency says the worst conditions are expected along the QE2 corridor and exposed areas west of the highway.

“Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”

Visibility is expected to improve in the evening when the snow tapers off and the winds begin to ease.
