Man arrested in Leduc after officer dragged by car during traffic stop

One man is in custody and RCMP are thanking a member of the public for their help after an officer was dragged by a car during a traffic stop on Wednesday.

Around 10:45 p.m., police were doing a check stop in Leduc when the driver of one vehicle refused to do an alcohol screening.

An officer tried to arrest the man who refused to leave his car. He then drove away, resulting in the officer being dragged around 300 metres.

That’s when a member of the public who saw the officer being dragged pulled their car in front of the fleeing vehicle and brought it to a halt.

This allowed the officer to free himself and arrest the driver.

The officer was assessed at a local hospital and was released with only minor injuries.

One man from Surrey, B.C. now faces several charges that include driving impaired, assault on an officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle.
