A minor league hockey tournament set to start in Calgary next week has been called off due to COVID-19 concerns.
In a statement Tuesday evening, the committee responsible for organizing the Mac’s U18AAA Tournament said rising COVID-19 cases and the ever-changing environment surrounding the pandemic led to the decision.
The statement cited a number of additional factors including the overall health of the teams, spectators and volunteers, and the impact of newly-announced restrictions in Alberta.

The 2020-21 tournament was also cancelled due to COVID-19 and the health measures put in place by the province and the City of Calgary.
This year’s tournament was supposed to feature teams from across Alberta and Canada as well as welcoming multiple teams from the United States and one from Hungary.
The possibility of hosting the 2021-22 tournament at a later date has not yet been ruled out.
