A failed mayoral candidate in Calgary has been arrested after a warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this week.
Calgary police issued a warrant for the arrest of Kevin J. Johnston because he failed to show up to a weekend prison term.
Not long after that warrant was issued, Johnston was arrested by U.S. Border control agents after he attempted to cross the border from Saskatchewan to Montana.

Police say Johnston had attempted to cross the border on foot and was taken into custody in Plentywood, Montana. Police are now working to have him returned to Canada.
In 2021, Johnston was ordered to serve 40 days behind bars for continually breaching COVID-19 public health orders. The jail term would be served on consecutive weekends and began in October.

Johnston was also fined $20,000 in the ruling, where a judge said he was using his charisma and online influence to get people to defy the health orders.
In addition, Johnston was told he could not leave Alberta until the sentence is served, and could not organize or attend any gatherings that break COVID-19 restrictions for one full year.
He also previously pleaded guilty to charges of criminal harassment stemming from abuse lobbed at Alberta Health Services staff, which led AHS to take the rare step to get a restraining order against Johnston.

In October, Johnston was also sentenced to 18 months in jail in Ontario relating to racist defamation against a Muslim man back in 2019.
