One killed, two injured in crash at Suncor oilsands site

A man is dead and two others are in hospital after a crash between two haul trucks at the Suncor oilsands mine north of Fort McMurray.
The accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.
RCMP say the victim is from Fort McMurray and is a contractor with the North American Construction Group Ltd.
Suncor’s Carley Robertson says they are deeply saddened by what has happened.
“We’d like to extend our deepest condolences to the friends and families of those involved,” Robertson said.

Robertson says it is her understanding that the base plant continues to operate, but the area where the accident took place has been closed off.
North American Construction Group issued a statement Thursday confirming the deceased is one of their employees.
“I and our entire NACG family are deeply shocked and saddened by this unexpected and tragic loss of our co-worker and friend,” said Joe Lambert, President and CEO.
“No words will ease the pain of loss for the family and friends of our cherished co-worker but we will do everything we can to support them during this difficult time.”
RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety are now investigating the crash.
