Have you been the victim of a person squeaking a rubber chicken at you while out in Calgary? You’re not alone.
When Julia Kovacova was out for a walk with her husband last weekend, it was more or less a normal afternoon.
As they made their way down Macleod Trail near 71 Ave., both were surprised by a rather odd noise passing by.
“We turned to see what the noise was and saw that a guy was holding a [rubber] chicken out of his rolled-down window, and looking at us while driving by,” she explained to CityNews.
Thinking she was possibly going crazy, Kovacova took to Reddit to ask other Calgarians if anyone has had a rubber chicken randomly squawked at them too.
The results were hilariously shocking.
“The f****** guy squeaked the chicken at me and my friend in November when we were standing on the corner of 4th and 4th, after having a few pints,” explained Reddit user flavourless-flave.
“Then when we were laughing at him, he looked away and turned around with these ridiculous glasses on that had googly eyes painted on the lenses and kept squawking the chicken.”
“When that kept making us laugh, he put on a huge curly wig and drove off.”
Not only is the drive-by chicken squeaker known, but they have also now created quite the reputation for themselves around the city.
One person saw the exact same thing along 14 Street one night. Others were thankful they finally had a group to share their experience with after thinking they were alone.
The Reddit thread has turned into a sort of “Serial Chicken Squeaking Victims Anonymous” discussion.
And it wasn’t just humans who have had a lasting impact left by the rubber chicken squeaker.
“Yes, walking my dog in the summer,” said Reddit user poutydragon. “He squeaked his chicken, my pup lost his damn mind and he drove away while I was left trying to console my pup from the toy that got away.”
From comments alone, it has proven the person responsible has no limits on how far they will squeak their chicken, though most sightings have happened along or near Macleod Trail.
Regardless, if you happen to be on the streets of Calgary and you hear a loud chicken squeaking at you, you’re not crazy.
