95.9 CHFM rebrand looks to up the mood for listeners in a COVID world

One of Calgary’s favourite radio stations has a new sound.

95.9 CHFM — a CityNews 660 sister station — has officially rebranded to STAR 95.9, with some familiar voices behind the mic.

Morning show host Billie Jo has been with the station for 11 years. She says the change is something to be excited about.

“After all we’ve been through in the last year, let’s just get some positivity, some feel good, some fun, some laughing, and some smiles. That’s really what this new brand — STAR 95.9– that’s what it’s all about, just making you smile. It’s a real feel good, turn up the feel good,” she said.

Listeners will still hear their favourite songs but the focus with this change is to how you, the listeners, feel after tuning in.

“Whatever’s going on in your day, in your life, in your world … you can turn us on, it’s going to make you smile, it’s going to make you feel good. From the music to the jocks, to everything in between — we’re just here to make you happy,” said cohost Candice Kaye.

The female duo will be joined by Producer Will in the mornings, with Ian MacKinnon moving from Afternoon Drive to middays.

As part of the rebrand, the station is also welcoming Heather Backman to the afternoons.

You can tune in to STAR 95.9 both online and on the FM dial.

Rogers is the parent company of this station and STAR 95.9.
