The 9 Avenue Bridge, which connects the community of Inglewood to East Village in the city’s downtown, opened to commuters on Monday morning.
The NEW 9 Avenue S.E. bridge is now officially open to vehicle traffic!

The City began work on the 110-year-old bridge over the Elbow river back in 2019 with a goal to have the project finished at the end of 2020. Following issues with steel supply, the project was faced with a severe delay.
“We know that folks in the community have been eagerly awaiting the new bridge and we are thrilled to be able to now open for drivers,” said Project Manager Evan Fer.
The bridge is now open with one lane in each direction, with additional lanes planned for the spring.
The city says now that work on the bridge is complete, its focus will shift to pathways surrounding the bridge which should open to pedestrians and cyclists in spring 2022.
Removal of the temporary bridge, which Calgarians have come to know over the last few years, will be deconstructed over the coming months.
