Sources confirm to CityNews that the Alberta government is currently speaking with Alpha House and the Drop-In Centre in Calgary, and Boyle Street Community Services in Edmonton to set up smaller supervised consumption sites.
This comes after the province announced it would be getting rid of the supervised consumption site at the Sheldon Chumir Health Centre in Calgary and replacing it with two new smaller sites.

In a statement to CityNews, the government confirms those three operators are putting together proposals for the smaller overdose prevention sites.
“Work is being done by these agencies and others to create proposals and we look forward to reviewing those rapidly once final proposals are received,” the statement reads.
“Alberta’s government has committed to improving service across the province through the introduction of quality standards and by integrating services to meet clients where they’re at.”
The statement references a letter from several community services groups which supports the idea of having the sites at or near shelters.
