Jason Kenney is facing backlash for posting a meme on his Twitter account, bashing green energy policies.
The meme in question is of Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during Sunday night’s Oscars after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head.
Kenney used the meme, showing Smith with the words “Reality” smacking Rock with “Green Energy Policies” written on him.

The meme has taken over the entertainment world and the internet over the last 24 hours, with thousands making similar memes. But some believe Kenney’s was in bad taste.
“It was a very clear statement using a contemporary way of communicating on social media to say that reality is interrupting the failure of green left policies to make everything more expensive,” Kenney said during a news conference on Monday.
Dozens, if not hundreds, of people have called on the Premier to delete the tweet, criticizing his way of communicating his dissatisfaction with certain policies.
But Kenney defended his tweet on Monday, saying memes like that one are “basically the entire internet today.”
Jason Kenney asked about use of the Will Smith slap meme to criticize green energy policy.
Kenney read the definition of a meme from his phone, then said its a creative way to make a point and if it makes the feds/other govts take notice, then that's good. #yeg #yyc #ableg pic.twitter.com/6PrzwUPSJF

“This is a meme that’s taken over the internet, it’s a creative way of making a point, the point is that folks who have been trying to drive people into energy poverty got it wrong.”
