Former Humboldt Bronco player Ryan Strasnitzki is getting an upgrade.
The 22-year-old from Airdrie, who was paralyzed from the chest down in the junior hockey team’s deadly bus crash in Saskatchewan in 2018, had an epidural stimulator implanted in his spine in Thailand in 2019.

The device sends electrical currents to his spinal cord to try to stimulate nerves and move limbs.
He says he is relieved the update is happening now after the pandemic delayed things.
“The science world is insane, it’s expanding every day and there’s new things coming out. so for them to come here and work on it, it’s something new for me and something new for them as well so it’s pretty exciting,” says Strasnitzki.
Strasnitzki says he’s hoping the updates will help with his core strength as part of his continuing to play sledge hockey.
