Coutts border crossing in Alberta faced delays as COVID testing lifts

Friday was the first day COVID-19 testing requirements were lifted at border crossings, causing people travelling from the USA into Canada through the Coutts border crossing in southern Alberta to experience long delays.

The website says the wait was at least four hours.

One snowbird stuck in line told CityNews that usually the line moves periodically every five to 10 minutes.

However, “In one hour and 17 minutes to be exact, I’ve been counting how many meters I’ve moved — 400 metres,” he said.

The Canada Border Services Agency says the delays are due to snowbirds going across the pond.

It would seem many Snowbirds have decided to come back to Alberta on the same day.

The line of vehicles stretched around five to six kilometres into the United States.

A woman who was returning from a winter spent down south, says the traffic lanes are too compacted.

“One lane is only trucks and one lane is regular vehicles and no one has moved. Everybody is coming out of their vehicles. It’s so dismal out here, there’s nothing,” she said.
