Calgary’s annual 4th Street Lilac Festival makes a comeback this summer

One of Calgary’s popular street festivals is returning this summer after a two-year hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic and health restrictions.

The Lilac Festival returns on June 5, and organizers say it will be bigger than ever.

The annual family-friendly festival takes place on 4th Street every year in June but had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Each year Calgarians gather to enjoy live music, artisan vendors and other entertainment.

This year, the festival is expanding. Along with the standard setup on 4th Street SW from Elbow Drive to 13th Avenue, the event will spill out onto 17th Avenue.

Organizers on social media announced the festival is expected to have an extra stage with live entertainment and more between 2nd Street and 5th Street SW.

The deadline for vendors to sign up for the Lilac Festival is May 1.
