Canadian teen advances to American Idol top 24

An 18-year-old pipeline worker who lives in Kamloops, B.C. continues to wow on the big stage, advancing to the top 24 on American Idol.

Cameron Whitcomb, who’s quickly becoming known for his signature backflip, sang Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me Babe” to move on in the singing competition.

“He did it again! He’s gonna miss one day, he’s gonna miss. He’s going to win this damn thing with back flips!” proclaimed the judges when he wrapped up his performance.

Prior to competing on American Idol, Whitcomb told CityNews he had never performed in public.

He earned a golden ticket and a trip to Hollywood after singing his rendition of Waylon Jennings’ “Rock, Salt and Nails” for judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie.

Whitcomb was born in Alberta but grew up on Vancouver Island. He later moved inland to Kamloops when he was 17, wanting to “do my own thing,” he said in a previous interview with CityNews.

He says his start in singing stemmed from being “really bad at being quiet.”

Monday marked the last Hollywood week episode of the popular show, which has been running for several seasons.
