Passport service delays continue for travelers due to COVID-19 restrictions

Thinking of traveling soon? Expect some delays in getting your passport.
Passport Canada offices continue to see delays in processing applications now that travel restrictions have been eased for fully vaccinated travelers.
This could add an extra layer of stress to your next trip.
In a statement to CityNews, Service Canada says they have seen a large increase in demand for passport services and they fully understand the difficulty and added stress this may cause.
They note federal health and safety protocols limit the number of people physically allowed in Service Canada offices which are creating long queues outside the buildings.

They say those with travel plans within two business days need to provide proof of travel, and those who don’t have immediate travel plans should use a new simplified renewal process that requires less documentation.
They encourage Canadians with no immediate travel plans to use the latter option.
The department also urges Canadians not to make travel plans until they have acquired their new passport.
