Calgary’s Beddington community goes green to beautify outdoor spaces

A new initiative is sprouting up to beautify Beddington on the city’s north end.

The Reimagine Beddington initiative focuses on local community projects that aim to create environmentally healthy, sustainable outdoor spaces, according to the Beddington Heights Community Association.

Some examples of projects include community gardens and ‘Beddington Butterfly’ which are safe space sites for butterflies, bees, and other insects who opt for pollinator-friendly and native plants.

Bonnie Ugaddan with Reimagine Beddington says volunteers will be planting flower boxes around the neighbourhood.

“It brings people together, it allows the opportunity for exercise being out in the sunshine. It’s been shown to improve mental health,” says Ugaddan.
