Calgary Roughnecks claim Alterna Cup and seize playoff spot with win over Vancouver

The Calgary Roughnecks are on a roll as they won their fifth straight with a 15-13 win over the Vancouver Warriors last night at the Rogers Arena.

With the win, the Roughnecks take home the Alterna Cup, and land a spot in the playoffs for the 2021-2022 National Lacrosse League (NLL) season, currently sitting third in the West Division.
The Alterna cup is a season-long competition among all five Canadian National Lacrosse League teams including Calgary, Halifax, Saskatchewan, Toronto, and Vancouver. The Roughnecks claimed the cup with a 6-1 record.

Typer Pace kicked off the scoring for the ‘necks in Vancouver, followed suit by Dan Taylor, Zach Herreweyers, and Shane Simpson all scoring singles. In the second period, Jesse King scored three more singles for the Roughnecks.
Heading into the second half tied 9-9, Calgary added three more goals to end the third period, and Zach Herreweyers and Zach Currier scored the final goals in the fourth.
Tyler Pace led the offensive play with seven points and Jesse King led the scoring with four goals. Goaltender Christian Del Bianco picked up the win with a 33-save effort.

The Roughnecks will visit Rochester Knighthawks on Friday, Apr. 22, before taking on the Colorado Mammoth on Apr. 30 in their final home game of the regular season.
