Calgary police make third arrest in Douglasdale killing
Calgary police have charged a third man with first-degree murder following the death of a 53-year-old man and a fire at his home in the Douglasdale neighbourhood more than two months ago.
The 30-year-old Calgary man was arrested in Radium Hot Springs, B.C., on Wednesday by the Columbia Valley RCMP after a Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest.
Chad Kowalchuk was killed and his home was burned down on Feb. 18.

Previously, a 41-year-old was charged with first-degree murder after he was taken into custody on April 7. That came after another 30-year-old was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and arson in March.

At a news conference on Thursday, April 14, members of Kowalchuk’s family made a public statement, saying they have several unanswered questions and ask anyone who may know something about his murder to come forward.
“Chad came from a family that loved and adored him very much,” the victim’s brother, Dean Kowalchuk, said. “He was a fun-loving and caring person, and did not deserve this end.”
The Calgary Police Service says investigators believe Kowalchuk was killed days before his home went up in flames, and they are still determining what relationship, if any, he had with the men accused in his murder.
Police are urging anyone with information about this investigation to contact them at 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
