World Book Day is recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) every year on April 23 and is a way to celebrate the joy of reading, the importance of copyright, and the dedication of the book publishing industry.
According to World Book Day, its mission is to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.
“Alberta’s book publishers are small businesses that share our stories with the world. This global reach makes them important not only to our culture but also to our economic recovery, adding about $10 million every year to the province’s GDP,” said Ron Orr, Alberta’s minister of culture.
“World Book Day is an opportunity to discover a wellspring of local literature and information. I encourage you to discover your next great read.”
“With the tremendous value of books, everyone should be able to enjoy the fruits of our publishing industry. That’s why the Government of Alberta is a proud partner of the Read Alberta eBooks program, which helps get Alberta books in the hands of Albertans.”
