Most Alberta drivers (83 per cent) say distractions are a threat to their well-being.
And even more (85 per cent) say they’ve witnessed someone on their phone behind the wheel.
That’s according to a new survey from the Alberta Motor Association, which points to distracted driving as the leading cause of collisions in Canada.
Nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of Alberta drivers say they’ve had to perform an emergency maneuver to avoid a crash with a distracted driver.
A quarter of drivers think they can multitask behind the wheel.

“It’s important to remember that every case of distracted driving is preventable, so we urge people to do as much as they can before they drive,” said Jeff Kasbrick, vice-president of advocacy and operations with AMA.
“Whether it’s setting their destination or finding the perfect playlist, doing it ahead of time will help ensure your focus isn’t pulled from safe driving.”
The AMA is launching a new campaign called #BeforeYouDrive to remind motorists of the dangers and how to avoid such collisions.
