Glenbow Museum to receive up to $80M for large-scale renovation

After receiving historic levels of funding and donations, more money is on the way to help redesign the Glenbow Museum.

Federal Infrastructure Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the governments of Canada and Alberta are contributing $40 million each towards renovations, redesigns and upgrades.

Glenbow Museum president Nicholas Bell says they have surpassed previous funding goals by a lot, and they’re not done yet.

“We know there is so much more that we can accomplish here in terms of building the future program to serve all Calgarians, Albertans, Canadians, and visitors to this great city. And so, upon serious reflection with a number of community supporters we have increased our official campaign goal to $175 million,” said Bell.

A previous major donation from the Shaw family has ensured there will be permanent free admission to the museum once it reopens in 2024.

“We see this as a national example of government, the private sector, generous private donors, municipal organizations, city leadership coming together to create something that will inspire generations,” said Bell.
