‘Hard-working’ Calgary mother of 5 killed in ‘road rage shooting’

Calgary police say a “road rage shooting” has led to the death of an innocent mother of five on Tuesday.

Angela McKenzie, 40, died after two vehicles crashed into her van near 17 Avenue SE and 36 Street SE in the city’s southeast community of Forest Lawn.

Police say prior to the crash two vehicles were chasing each other and exchanging gunfire.

Another vehicle was also damaged, its driver was taken to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Pastor Ian Scott says McKenzie was an active member of the church community and a devoted mother, always there to provide a helping hand.

Friends and family are now rallying around the five children who also experienced the recent passing of their father in February.

“Their father passed away about two months ago,” Scott said. “So now they are without parents and are under the care of friends and other extended family. So, it’s a rough time and children grieve so differently than adults.”
