History would not repeat itself in Calgary as the Cavalry hosted the Vancouver Whitecaps in the Canadian Championship Quarter-Finals on Wednesday.
Playing at Spruce Meadows, Cavalry FC broke the scoreless deadlock off a thunderous strike from Myer Bevan in the 72′ minute.

In the 83′ minute, Cavs defender Karifa Yao kept his team’s lead by clearing the ball from the goal line on a Whitecaps attempt. Moments later, on a Vancouver corner kick, Erik Godoy’s shot hit a body and beat the Cavalry goalkeeper to level the game.
The back-and-forth game was another staple in the short rivalry the two teams have made since 2019, which once again saw both teams end full time in Calgary on level terms.
Due to Canadian Championship rules, the game went straight to penalty kicks following the 90 minutes of standard play, skipping extra time.

The win is the first-ever victory for the Vancouver Whitecaps against a Canadian Premier League team. Previously, they lost to the Cavalry 2-1 over a two-legged series in 2019, and in 2021, Vancouver lost to Pacific FC in a dramatic 4-3 game.
With the win, the Whitecaps will host CPL opponent York United in the Canadian Championship Semi-Finals in June.
The winner of the Whitecaps and York United will host the Canadian Championship Finals against either CF Montreal or Toronto FC.
