Calgary Central Library nominated for 2022 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize

Calgary’s Central Library, which was completed in November 2018, was nominated for an architecture award.

The 2022 Mies Crown Hall Americas Prize released the nominated projects of 200 buildings in North and South America.

The Central Library was built by an international firm, Snøhetta, while Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) led the construction.

The building was designed to accommodate the growing number of library users over the next decade, according to the Calgary Public Library.

The library has public spaces, community rooms, and links to the outdoors that can be experienced from inside the building.

The new 240,000 square foot building replaced the Central Library built in the 1960s. The expansion increased capacity by nearly 60 per cent.
