Calgary’s 4th Street Lilac Festival returns after 2-year hiatus

After the pandemic altered plans for the past two years, one of the biggest street festivals in Calgary is returning.

Lilac Fest will happen along 4th Street – stretching from 12 Avenue to Elbow Drive S.W. – this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For years it marked the symbolic kickoff to summer and the start of the festival season.

Just like years past, tens of thousands are expected to cram onto 4th Steet.

Calgarians will be able to enjoy dozens of musical acts and numerous bands, dance group performances on multiple stages, and hundreds of vendors selling local items and craft goods.

For the first time, the festival is expanding onto 17 Avenue from 2nd Street to 5th Street S.W.

As always it will be completely free to head to Lilac Fest and it is good for all ages.

Traffic delays and backups in the Beltline are expected for those driving around downtown.
