Calgary wind warning issued, trees knocked down

On top of the rainfall warning and flood watch in Calgary, Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the city as well.

Strong storm-force winds up to 90 km/h will blow starting Tuesday afternoon and are expected to taper off into the evening hours.

Environment Canada says with the heavy rain and wet ground, trees might be knocked over by the forceful winds.

Callers to CityNews have mentioned they’ve seen a few trees already toppled by the weather conditions.

The weather agency adds roof shingles and windows could also be damaged by the gusts, and any loose objects could be tossed around or tree branches could break.

Enmax reported some power outages around Calgary on Tuesday afternoon, presumably as a result of the strong winds.

The energy company says four outages were reported around 12:30 p.m. affecting the communities of Greenview, Edgemont, Bridgeland, Bankview and Upper Mount Royal.
