Alberta COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations on decline as final health restrictions removed

Key COVID-19 figures continue to decline according to Alberta’s latest weekly report, as the province ended some of its final health restrictions.
Hospitalizations were down by nearly 100 – to 719 – and only 19 people were in intensive care with COVID-19 as of Monday.
The update also showed there were 164 new active cases in Alberta.

The province reported 24 COVID-19 deaths in the last week.
Overall, the number of deaths is approaching 4,600 since the start of the pandemic.

The Alberta government ended some of the final health restrictions Wednesday, meaning masking on public transit is no longer necessary.
Also, Albertans with COVID-19 symptoms or who test positive are no longer mandated to isolate at home.
The health minister cited the declining number of hospitalizations as the reason to do away with some of the remaining health restrictions.
