Alberta extending fuel tax relief for another 3 months

Alberta is extending fuel tax relief for Albertans, allowing them to save 13 cents per litre of gasoline or diesel for another three months, according to a provincial release.

The province says total savings are:

    • $6.80 for compact cars around 50 litres;
    • $7.21 for small SUVs around 53 litres;
    • $12.65 for a mid-size SUV around 93 liters;
    • $18.50 for a large pick-up truck around 136 litres and semi-truck around 1,364 litres.

The province will review the program four times a year, and will renew it if the average price of crude oil falls below $90 per barrel.

“Countless Albertans have told us how much the program has helped them during these challenging economic times. With the program’s extension, Alberta’s government is continuing to support Albertans and their ability to afford everyday goods,” said Jason Nixon, president of the treasury board and minister of finance.

Alberta is also calling on the federal government to provide fuel price relief efforts.
