Calgary Transit increasing service during Stampede

Calgary Transit says it’s extending service hours and adding new routes during the Calgary Stampede.

Amanda Bradley with Calgary Transit says they’re expecting larger crowds this year than previous.

“We want to provide the service that customers need,” Bradley said. “We’ve already planned to increase service but we’ll also be monitoring ridership throughout the 10 days, and we can add in service when and where it’s needed.”

CTrains will run more frequently, with some having an additional car to accommodate larger crowds. Trains and buses will also be active for longer hours throughout the 10-day event.

Calgary Transit is also adding two express bus routes — one from North Pointe Terminal and another from Mackenzie Towne — to get people directly to the Stampede grounds.

Bradley adds security and cleaning measures will also increase during Stampede.

“In a typical year, during typical service, if a train did need to be cleaned, we would take it out of service for the amount of time it takes to clean it,” she explained. “We’re doing it in service this year, just to make sure that continuity of service is in place.”
