C’mon and belt out a tune: Calgary launches ‘Karaoke Bus’ at Brentwood CTrain Station

It will either be the worst bus ride ever, or a great time while riding transit.

Calgary Transit launched the karaoke bus at the Brentwood station Wednesday morning.

Calgarians can literally belt out a tune at this new featured bus ride.

Communications and Information lead for Calgary Transit, Stephen Tauro, says they parked the bus today, but the real fun begins next week.

“For today’s launch, we’re stationed at Brentwood. Next week it’s going to be in service so it’s going to be on a random route and we’re not going to advertise which route it is, we’re not going to replace existing service [and] it’ll be just an additional bus. So customers will have the ability to jump on for free and showcase their talent,” said Tauro.

Tauro says people were lined up to get on the first bus today.

“It’s part of our welcome back package we’re looking at enhancing the customer experience and this is just one of the crazy ideas we came up with to help improve the customer experience and make taking transit fun again,” said Tauro.

“We were challenged with transition recovery, the pandemic’s been hard, it’s [been] 2 years we started welcoming back customers and we were really thinking we really want to build back a better transit system. And for us we thought, hey, why not make it fun?” said Tauro

“And so these types of events, these types of initiatives really spark a lot of smiles from our customers. And a lot of the bus routes are traveling within the community, so people are traveling with their neighbors, with family and with friends, and what better way to do it through smiling and through music,” added Tauro.

Some local young Calgarians were fans of the idea.

“I think after COVID and being in my house for two years this is an awesome opportunity for Calgarians to get out while you can. And it’s nice weather Stampede is around the corner and it’s just building that temptation for when Stampede is coming,” said Sachman.

“This is the best thing that happened because we get to sing our hearts out and be Calgarians and just have fun,” added Ella.

Plus with the Stampede making a full comeback after a two-year hiatus the timing is better than ever.

“Next week is Stampede and everyone is going to be in a festive mood so it couldn’t have worked out better,” said Tauro.
