RCMP say more than half a dozen homes were damaged northwest of Calgary near the community of Shantz after a tornado touched down Thursday afternoon.
Officers from Olds, Didsbury and Sundre detachments have been going door-to-door in the community southeast of Sundre and confirm there have been no fatalities.
“We were notified that there were about six to nine houses in the Sundre/Didsbury area that received significant damage,” said Cpl. Gina Slaney with the RCMP, Southern Alberta District.
“(Officers) walked door-to-door, house-to-house, to do a head count and to make sure everybody was accounted for.”
Slaney says at first there was concern for some of the residents and their whereabouts.
“For a short time, there was an inkling that there might have been two kids that were missing, but they were found shortly after and they’re totally safe.”
