Airdrie RCMP ask for witnesses after fatal crash

One youth is dead after a collision east of Airdrie and Mounties are looking for witnesses or dashcam footage.

Airdrie RCMP say Sunday around 5 p.m. they were called, alongside Airdrie Fire Services, to a collision involving a pickup truck and hatchback on Highway 567 near Range Road 284.

“It is believed the adult male driver of the eastbound hatchback attempted to overtake a pickup truck pulling a travel trailer, also travelling eastbound, when the hatchback struck the back of the trailer,” a RCMP statement said.

The impact led to the hatchback leaving the road and hitting a power pole, RCMP explain.

They add that the pole caught fire, and spread to the hatchback which became “fully engulfed.”

A youth who was in the back of the hatchback died from their injuries.
