“One month ago, my mom and my two younger brothers also came to Calgary but with very different situation, they’re fleeing the war in Ukraine. I realized that my brothers would have to start school in September in a whole new setting, in a whole different language,” Stepanchuck said.
“A lot more Ukrainians coming into Calgary might have a similar problem. Therefore, I had an idea of bringing all the kids together, all Ukrainian new comers, and review the basic subjects of the Alberta curriculum in order to help them adjust to the new language, and to the new school system.”
She adds the three-week summer school is launching is August, so far there are 71 kids registered, and many teachers are volunteering to be part it.
