Calgary police holding dry run in anticipation of Pope’s visit to Alberta

You might see several police vehicles and motorcycles escorting a motorcade throughout the city on Sunday.
Calgary police are practicing a formation in preparation for the pope’s arrival in Edmonton on July 25.
Citizens can expect to see motorcycle officers and other marked police vehicles escorting a large motorcade throughout Calgary. The scenario-based training will require the officers to constantly employ emergency lights and sirens.

CPS Acting Staff-Sgt. Nadia Paterson says they will be working with Edmonton Police Services (EPS) and RCMP in escorting in Edmonton.

“We have 27 police vehicles and 35 motorcycles that are driving around the city practicing for when the pope arrives because they’re going to be working with EPS and RCMP doing all of the escorts and everything in Edmonton,” said Paterson.
She adds the practice is expected to run for the entire day Sunday and Monday.
