The Calgary Stampede is so much more than just bulls and bucking. A group of local entertainers run their backsides off during the ten days of entertainment.
Country artist Michela Sheedy did 30 concerts in 10 days in an effort to boost her singing career. Her hard work has paid off, as she is now one of the Calgary Flames’ anthem singers and looking to keep advancing her dream of a singing career.
“I have been going to the Stampede since I was two years old and it’s been part of my life and in my blood since then. And as a country artist, it’s a very busy, hectic, chaotic, and amazing time of the year. I’m currently sitting at show number 30 of 30 in 10 days” she said.

An act of kindness from a stranger earlier this week kept Sheedy from being late to her Stampede rodeo gig.
“So I was asked to sing the anthem at the Rodeo here at the Stampede. I left early that day, thinking I would get there nice and early with time to spare,” she explained.
But her car broke down.
“I was in distress. I was freaking out a bit. A very kind stranger named Ajay saw me and I guess he had nothing to do that day, and so he offered me a ride to the rodeo,” she said.
“I hopped in his car and left my vehicle on the side of the highway with all my gear in it. And I got to the rodeo on time thanks to Ajay.”
As for how the Stampede has helped bolster not only Sheedy’s music career but those of other local artists, she says it’s a game changer.
“It’s a very busy time of the year for artists around the city, ask any of us it’s exhausting but thrilling at the same time.”
“Stampede and Stampede Entertainment has been very supportive in terms of local artists such as myself and other people around the city. And Stampede is such a great platform for us to be able to showcase the work that we put in all year. So it’s really important to me not only as an Albertan but as an artist,” said Sheedy.
