Devastating loss at Calgary Stampede for Indigenous performer

By Alejandro Melgar

Regalia that belongs to a performer at the Calgary Stampede is lost after their mother’s van was stolen, with the garment inside.

Sage Dasilva Cardinal made a Facebook post describing their feelings around the incident.

“This post is difficult for me to make because I feel like I have failed myself and my family. I guess there’s only so much you can do when you’re regalia is stolen or stolen along with something else,” Cardinal wrote.

“My moms van was stolen from the stampede grounds along with my outfit in it. I’m asking for people to please lookout for this beadwork because this beadwork isn’t just important to me but to my family.”

Cardinal has asked for people to be on the lookout for their beadwork.

The post has been shared over 2,500 times on Facebook, with plenty of comments of support for Cardinal.

If you have any information about this stolen item, you’re asked to call the police or Crime Stoppers.
