Wildfire threatening parts of Clearwater County west of Red Deer

An evacuation order is now in place due to a wildfire burning in Clearwater County, northwest of Nordegg.
Residents in Provincial Recreation Areas (PRAs) including Snow Creek, Dry Haven, Centre For Outdoor Education, Fish Lake, Frontier Lodge and Goldeye Lake are being asked to leave immediately.

A two-hour evacuation alert is also out for the hamlet of Nordegg.
“Residents and visitors in the Nordegg area are asked to be prepared to leave within 2 hours of being notified,” said an Alberta Emergency Alert statement.
The wildfire is reportedly located 19 kilometres west of Nordegg, growing quickly and considered out of control.
A tweet from Clearwater County says the fire is near the Bighorn First Nation with significant smoke in the area and fire crews battling the wildfire from the air.

An air quality statement is also now in effect for Clearwater County due to the wildfire.
Individuals may experience symptoms such as increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.
