Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has laid at least 10 charges relating to child sexual assault against 21-year-old Imesh Ratnayake from Edmonton.

Six victims of child luring and sexual assault have been found so far, all of them young girls, with the youngest being 11 years old.

Officers arrested Ratnayake earlier this month on July 7, he was later released from custody, and is scheduled to appear in a Morinville court on Aug. 4.

Morinville RCMP and the Zebra Child Protection Centre helped with the investigation, which began in June of this year.

The charges against Ratnayake include:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference
  • Luring a child
  • Making child pornography
  • Transmitting child pornography
  • Possessing child pornography
  • Obtaining sexual service for consideration from persons under 18
  • Invitation to sexual touching
  • Distribution of intimate images
  • Extortion

Mounties say Ratnayake used the app Snapchat to find and lure the young girls, and that his user names are islandsauce0129 or monked.ruffy.

Police believe there are more victims and are asking anyone who may have been targetted by Imesh Ratnayake to come forward.

Anyone with information about this investigation is encouraged to call ICE at 780-509-3363, their local police, or anonymously at Crime Stoppers.
