Calgary gas prices fall before Heritage Day long weekend

There’s some good news ahead of the Heritage Day long weekend when it comes to Calgary gas prices.

On Thursday, gas was around $1.69 for a litre of regular around parts of the city, though some stations were posting prices as low as $1.47 to $1.56.

Overall, the average is down 22 cents in a month ago.

The drop comes after several months that saw record highs for gasoline.

In July, Calgarians paid an average of $1.89 per litre of regular, with the city’s average fuel prices recorded at roughly 20 cents cheaper than the country’s average compared to June.

Canada’s average price per litre fell about 15 cents since then, but Calgary’s prices remained steady.

Even with Alberta’s temporary suspension of its fuel tax, gas prices in Calgary were still hovering around $1.90 per litre of regular earlier this July.

However, many analysts have previously said declines in prices were coming.

Paul Pasco, a principal consultant with Kalibrate, said last week that changes in prices could be attributed, in part, to lower demand for fuel.
