A parking ban which coincides with the “Play On” street hockey tournament, resulted in 60 vehicles being towed in Marda Loop this week.

The Calgary parking authority requires 12 hours notice prior to a parking ban and some locals wonder if it’s enough.

“I think it was a little short notice for sure. It caught a lot of people off guard,” said James, Marda Loop resident.

Kendralynn, another Marda Loop resident, says “there were multiple tickets on this side of the street too. Every single car was actually ticketed on this side of the street here on 17th.”

“Maybe 24 hours, 48 hours notice should be good? Not 12 hours,” said Natalie whose family car was ticketed.

The Calgary parking authority says it will waive towing and storage fees for owners impacted by the ban. The parking tickets meanwhile, charging just shy of $170 dollars are still valid and expected to be paid and appealed.
