Remains of missing Calgary woman ‘Irish’ found, murder charges laid

Calgary police have found partial remains of a woman who went missing in 2016. They have also charged someone with murder.

Tammie Doreen Howard, commonly known as ‘Irish’, was last heard from on Christmas Eve in 2016. Her family reported her missing the following April and police began looking for her shortly after.

A search for physical evidence related to Irish’s death began on the Siksika Nation on Saturday, Aug. 6.

“Over the last five years, our Missing Persons Unit investigators have followed up on leads and poured over evidence in an effort to locate Irish, who we believe was murdered in a particularly violent way,” said acting Staff-Sgt. Lee Treit.

“We are saddened to share that though DNA processes, we have located and identified partial remains of Irish and continue to search for additional remains.”

Police have charged Natalie Renee Vinje, also known as NVF Evans, 36, with first-degree murder.

“We have reason to believe that the accused did not act alone and continue to search for answers in this homicide investigation,” said Treit.

Calgary police believe more of Irish’s remains are in the east of Calgary, adding search teams are continuing to look through Siksika Nation land.
